Thank you for your contributions

June 14, 2010

During our last gift day we asked you to make a brick that we would use as living stones to represent the sort of church we are building together. On that brick we asked you to write what it is your bring to our church, whether it be your gifts, things that are unique about you, or the areas of church life you serve in.

We had some fantastic answers and we have collated them into an image. Each of the words shows what was written on our ‘living stones’ and the larger the word in the image the more times someone wrote that thing down. This gives a great idea of the values that we hold as church family and really serves as an encouragement that we are building a church on the right foundations.

Thank you so much once again for your contributions, both in this task and in all the areas of church life that you are serving in. We are so grateful for you all.

Fond farewell for our 3rd years

June 2, 2010

We are sad to see some of our 3rd years leaving this year now their degrees have come to an end. We also say goodbye for now to a few students who are taking a year abroad as part of their degree or those who were here in Hull for only a year. We will miss you all!

We had a party to celebrate and send them off in style! View the photos!

We are looking forward to the new term coming after the summer and have exciting plans to start a new student small group. We wish all our students a happy and restful summer and hope you are able to take time out with God. We look forward to welcoming you back in the new year. Keep up to date with what’s going on at church over the summer by watching this new feed.

Another Fantastic Fun Day!

June 1, 2010

We had our annual fun day last weekend on the 29th May. Although the weather wasn’t great we saw hundreds of people come through the doors and have a great time on all there was on offer. Activities included sumo suits, bouncy castles, reptile show, face painting, hair braiding, badge-making, BBQ and loads more!

We will have another of these events next year and hope you can join us! A massive thank you for everyone from the church who helped out it was another great event. Why not take a look at the pictures?

Faith Festival in Hull City Centre

June 1, 2010

On 23rd May Jubilee church Hull, along with lots of other local churches gathered in Queen Victoria Square to worship God and celebrate the birth of the worldwide church on Pentecost Sunday.

The weather was glorious as multiple congregations gathered to worship, pray and celebrate their Christian faith. The day featured information stalls, food and hand-made banners, as well as a Gospel presentation from our very own Steve Whittington.

Listen to a part of Steve’s preach

The day was put together by Hope+ who are an inter-church charitable trust that grew out of the working together of local churches through Hope 08 (Hull) – seeking to make the Good News of Jesus known to our communities in both word and deed. Its purpose is to provide a platform on which churches can come together to pray for this City region; to celebrate our faith together in the public arena; and to encourage local churches in reaching out together with practical demonstrations of the Gospel in their local communities. ‘Your Kingdom come, your will be done, here in Hull as it is in Heaven.’

The event was funded entirely by personal and church donations as we wanted it to be a free event so all could have the opportunity to attend. If you would like to contribute to our shortfall you can send a cheque made payable to ‘Hope08 (Hull)’ and sent to Revd. J. Taylor , Victoria Dock Vicarage, 22 Corinthian Way, Hull, HU9 1UF. Thank you.

Alpha Course currently running

June 1, 2010

Our current Alpha Course is half way through. Over the last few weeks we have looked at topics that have included Who is Jesus. Why did Jesus die? How should I pray? How and Why do we read the bible? The Alpha course is designed primarily for people who aren’t churchgoers and each course is open to everyone who would like to attend.

If you are interested in joining us you still can even though the course has already started. We will soon be going on our Alpha Day Away.

When: Every Thursday
Where: Jubilee House, Walton Street
Time: 7pm
Content: A great meal and a short talk on a different subject relating to the basics of Christianity each week.

Most courses attract a diverse range of guests of different ages and backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints. Over 7,000 courses are currently running across the UK in rural and urban settings, including every major UK city.

People find out about the Alpha course in a number of ways - a recommendation from a friend, a poster, flyer, newspaper article or advert, or through the website or an internet search.

Guests attend for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples’ beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.
