Launched in September 2014, Jubilee Life College is aimed at those in unemployment, those who are homeless and those with mental health issues. It is an informal education setting where you can learn a new hobby, learn life skills and look to improve your mental health.
Courses run each term, are free to attend and open to anyone. Our courses are informal so you can join courses at any time throughout the time. Our next course begin the week commencing 1st May and the courses we are running can be found below.
The courses are all based at Jubilee Central, 62 King Edward Street, Hull, HU1 3SQ. Courses book up quick so if you wish to sign up for any of our courses please call the church office on 01482 328196.
Craft Together (Tuesdays 1-3pm): Want to get creative? Join this relaxed and informal course which gives students the chance to make friends and have fun together whilst learning a new art or craft each week.
Positive Living (Tuesdays 1-3pm): Want to overcome anxiety and depression? Then this course can make a big difference to your life. Come and join in a relaxed, informal and confidential environment. This course will help you through the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy principles to help you overcome anxiety and depression and live life more positively.
CAP Release Group (Wednesdays 1-3pm): Struggling with any type of addictive behaviour? This 12 step course empowers people to break free from life controlling habits such as drinking, smoking, gambling, internet or drug addictions. The release group provides a place of trust and security, where you can meet with others in a similar situation. You will be offered emotional and practical support through the help of trained coaches and weekly group session. This course is run with the support of ‘Christians Against Poverty’.
Indoor Sport (Thursday 10am-11.30): Have fun playing table tennis, pool, indoor boules and more. Make friends and have fun.
Cookery (Thursdays 11am-1pm): Would you like to learn to cook or improve the skills you already have? Students on this cookery course will be taught basic catering skills combining practical food preparation and the essential knowledge required for working in the catering industry. With the support of our encouraging tutor team you will cook a different meal each week which you will be able to enjoy together. This course is supported by ‘Full’, a catering social enterprise.
Customer Service (Thursday 1-2.30pm): Want to be equipped with the skills to successfully deal with customers? This course will focus on the best ways to do this with topics including improving communication skills, building self-confidence and dealing with difficult customers. This is a great opportunity to learn from people experienced in this area and help improve prospects of gaining job opportunities.
Hairdressing (Thursday 1-3pm): Learn how to create hairstyles the professional way. This is an opportunity to be taught basic hairdressing skills so that you can produces hairstyle results which would only normally be achieved at a salon. Students will be trained by experienced hair stylists in a salon type atmosphere and have plenty of opportunities to practice the skills taught including blow drying, curling, straightening and braiding. This course is supported by Hairaisers International, Cottingham.
Guitar Workshops (Friday 11am-12pm): Ever wanted to learn to play guitar or improve your skills. This friendly workshop will help and encourage you to do this. Don’t worry if you don’t own a guitar yet, we have some you can use. Suitable from learner to intermediate skill level.
